Over 200 schools shoes, string bags and Exercise books donated to Kliptown Youth Program

The donation will go a long way to ensure that the KYP continues to offer its services to the youth of Kliptown.

The Kliptown Youth Program (KYP) received a donation of over 200 school shoes, 206 string bags and 906 exercise books on Friday. The initiative was the result of a collaboration between Masana Petroleum Solutions (Masana) and the Central Gauteng Lions (CGL).

“We as Masana, work with partners that share the same sentiment when it comes to giving back. Just like the CGL, we believe in supporting and uplifting the next generation. Masana prides itself on service excellence, and we use that across the business as well as how we approach our CSI initiatives,” said Masana’s Keikanetswe Dlepu explaining the significance of the partnership.

Producing the likes of legendary struggle stalwart Charlotte Maxeke, the famous Walter Sisulu Square and the drafting site of the Freedom Charter, the township of Kliptown is a historically rich, but socially poor township with the majority of the population living in poverty.

The youth are often the hardest hit by these conditions and their development is stifled. Lions Cricket said they want to be a catalyst brand that uses sport as a change agent to improve the lives of many citizens, including non-cricket playing communities. They plan to do this through various off-field initiatives.

“Lions Cricket exists within a community full of hopes, aspirations, opportunities and challenges and hence the need to plough extensively to our communities. We are truly honoured and humbled to be welcomed by various communities, NGOs, civil society members and working with great partners like Masana” said Wanele Mngomezulu, CGL’s Marketing and Communications Manager.

The donation will go a long way to ensure that the KYP continues to offer its services to the youth of Kliptown. Dlepu added that that the partnership was set to continue.

“We are looking forward to partnering on many more initiatives that not only assist communities but also give them access to the world of cricket,” said Dlepu.
