Mpura wadi bedtime story laid to rest

During the ceremony, Mpura’s grandmother, mama Maria Stuurman ascended the stage and gave out a speech, during her speech delivery, she said “When Mongezi (Mpura) was born his mother was still at school.

On his first day, I remember welcoming him. I was excited and happy but I was angry when his mother was pregnant, but when he was born things turned around and there was love.” She also mentioned that Mpura was a naughty child but knew how to behave when he got home.

Lady Du was one of the people who attended the funeral, she shared some words about her close friend and collaborator. Sharing her speech she said, “This is a painful thing to do, especially because you were so young.

“Thank you for everything that you have done for a lot of people including myself. This is your last bedtime story, but we know in spirit you will come alive and you will show us the way.” Ending off her speech, she shared that she was going to leave one thing for her friend. She demonstrated this by singing a verse of Mpura’s hit ‘Umsebenzi Wethu’.

During Mpura’s send-off, children were seen singing alongside the hearse as it was passing Protea Gardens Mall.

The talented musician passed away in a fatal accident with fellow Amapiano artists namely: Killer Kau, Thando Tot, Khanya “The Voice” Hadebe, and TD, when the car they were traveling in was involved in a head-on collision near Marikana Tollgate in Rustenburg on the N4 highway on August 7.
