Shoprite reopens at Jabulani Mall

Reopening of Shoprite Jabulani is expected to ease some strain on Maponya Mall which has experienced an influx of shoppers.

Shoprite in Jabulani Mall re-opened its doors on Thursday and welcomed shoppers after a temporary closure.

The store was one of the many affected by the violent riots and looting which hit Soweto about two weeks ago.

As a temporary solution, the Shoprite Group had sent two trucks with mobile stores to help residents purchase essentials while the shop was being fixed.

“It is thanks to the Group’s employees who went the extra mile and helped with clean-up operations, despite trying conditions, that its Jabulani supermarket could re-open in record time,” said Shoprite in a statement on Thursday.

In addition to thousands of food hampers distributed to affected communities in Gauteng and KZN, Shoprite also made a donation to Shout SA which spearheaded cleanup operations at Jabulani Mall after it was looted.

The opening of Shoprite at Jabulani Mall is expected to bring the much needed relief to residents who had no where to shop.

It will also help ease some strains from Maponya Mall which has been experiencing an influx of shoppers from across Soweto since the looting spree.
