We will try and assist grieving family where possible – MEC

Family to wait for about to find out how their child died on school playground.

The family of Grade R pupil Indiphile Baninzi from Dikgabane Primary School who was killed by a lawnmower, will have to wait about a month to find out how their child died on a school playground.

This was announced by the Gauteng Education MEC Barbara Creecy during her official visit to the school and media briefing.

The lawnmower dubbed killer machine is currently covered with a blanket and parked in a corner of an administration block at the school.

Creecy said: “A number of questions, such as departmental policy on maintenance hours in schools, would be answered only after a probe into the boy’s death had been completed.

“I do not have answers to all the questions that the family had asked her about their child’s death and the only thing I can say is that we all must wait, because if I had answers we wouldn’t have hired an investigator.”

Indiphile had only arrived in Gauteng last month to live in Lefereng, west of Soweto, with his uncle to start school here since his mother’s work in the tourism sector saw her spend more time in Gauteng.

The school principal and some teachers, who were still visibly shaken by the Tuesday afternoon accident, steered clear of the press conference.
