Sonqoba Youth Empowerment held a community outreach event in Kliptown to help and motivate families in the area.

Clothing donations were made and a soup kitchen programme was also provided to those who attended. The event, held on June 26, was supported by MM Top Seven, Richu Trading Enterprise and All Day Jam. The day also featured motivational speeches from residents and local entrepreneurs, music and dance.

Founder of Sonqoba, Mpho Namane Sithebe said, “Sonqoba wanted to give back to the community. Some people have been retrenched, some are not working, and families are struggling. I think it is a crucial time right now that we all support where ever we can with anything we have. We came to help the mothers and the children of Kliptown. We reached to several people who made several donations.”

One of those organisations MM Top Seven, speaking for the team, Zandisile Simelela said collaborations between NGOs were the key to success for communities.

“We normally work with Non-profit organisations who are doing great work for their communities. Sonqoba reached out to us and told us about this project to help families. We did not hesitate because this is something beneficial for the community and we were happy to be a part of it. We want to see all our NPOs working together for the success of our communities,” Simelela said.

Kliptown resident Mery Lebata said extended her gratitude to the organisers of the event.

“I just want to say thank you and I think I speak on behalf of most people here when I say we are grateful. We have had a god day, spirits are high, and had a good time,” she said.

Sithebe concluded the day by thanking sponsors and all those who assisted.

“Without the support, it could not have been possible. I have to thank Mrs. Morobela, Rich, Top Seven. I want to Thank Pastor Miso who worked very hard on this and my colleague, Tshidi as well as my friend Kelebogile. There are others as well so I want to say a big thank you,” she said.
