Three men arrested in Protea Glen for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition

The suspects failed to explain where they got the firearm and were arrested.

Three men between the ages of 21 and 35 years old were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Impala Road in Protea Glen Ext 1 on Saturday afternoon.

The police were patrolling when they saw a Toyota Quantum passing red robots at a high speed.

The police chased and managed to catch the vehicle which had four male occupants. The vehicle stopped and the men jumped out and ran away. The police gave chase and managed to apprehend three men.

They went back to the vehicle and searched inside. They found a firearm hidden under the seat.

The firearm was a revolver loaded with six live ammunition and the serial number had been erased. The suspects failed to explain where they got the firearm and were arrested.

“An investigation is underway to search for the fourth suspect and to also link the firearm to any other crimes committed.

These suspects are expected to appear at Protea Magistrate’s Court this week,” said Sergeant Vincent Mashiteng of Protea Police Station. To report for any crime related issues taking place in the community residents can contact: 011 986 92.
