Lakeview Park clean-up a success!

“Eyethu le park! (this park is ours)” said the Task Team’s Chairperson, Theresa Chalatse whilst addressing residents during the clean-up.

Residents of Lakeview got down and dirty on Tuesday to clean up a local park, or what was left of it.

The deserted space has become infested with rats and pollution, dangerous to those who live nearby the park.

It had become the perfect spot for thieves and an unsafe place for children.

The neighbourhood’s good samaritans who go by the name: the ‘Lakeview Task Team’ then took it upon themselves to organise a clean-up of the park.

On the day with covid protocols observed, young and old Lakeview residents heeded the call and came out with their tools to clean up the park.

“Eyethu le park! (This park is ours),” said the Task Team’s Chairperson, Theresa Chalatse whilst addressing residents during the clean-up.

“We have to take care of it. Charity begins at home and this is our home.”

The day also featured an afternoon braai and entertainment session.

Chalatse thanked residents and further warned them that the responsibility to protect the park was on their shoulders.

“We thank you all for coming out. Without your support, we could not have done it. We now have to protect our park. If you see someone coming to empty their trash bin here you have every right to stop them because the pollution from that bin will affect you as well, and the rest of the neighbourhood,” Chalatse said.

The initiative was supported by companies such as Fidelity ADT, Jeff’s Mobile Kitchen, Super Store, SK Nkosi, and Vincent Mthabela. Additional support came from City Parks and Pikitup.
