Central Midfielder and defender Ethan Willies is only seventeen-years-old but is already being recognised as a talented young footballer from Eldorado Park.

Willies is currently playing for Strokes FC and Jomo Cosmos FC’s Cosmos Development’ side. “I am very proud and honoured to play for Strokes FC because it is like the national team here in Eldorado Park.

“I’m still growing and learning so being part of the club gives me a great advantage because I get to learn and play with experienced players, even some professional players. I am looking forward to playing in the big tournaments,” said Willies who has been with the club for a month and has been with Cosmo Development for the last three years.

In the next five years, Willies would like to find himself playing for the big European clubs. He is aware that his dreams are big and require a lot of hard work to get to where he wants to be in life.

The young footballer has his short-term goal planned out and that is for him to get signed to the first team of Cosmos FC.

“Jomo Sono is one of my biggest inspirations, sometimes he watches our games and he allows us to train with the first team. He also invites us out to lunch and speaks to us. Just listening to his background story, how he grew up and the way he built himself up is an inspiration,” explained Willies.

‘Father’ is what Willies is called by his friends. He shared that his friend gave him the name when he was about eight-years-old.

He explained that he always played soccer with the older boys and never boys the same age as him, so his friends and now coaches call him ‘Father’.

Willies would like to thank coach Nathan Davies for the opportunity to play for Strokes FC and would also like to thank his family.
