FAKE NEWS ALERT: IPID did not withdraw charges in Nathaniel Julies murder case

SAPS cautions that anyone found to be circulating fake news will be prosecuted.

It has come to the attention of the South African Police Service that there is currently a media release circulating on social media, alleging that the Gauteng Provincial SAPS Commissioner confirmed on the 8th March 2021 that IPID has withdrawn charges in the Nathaniel Julies murder case with immediate effect. The statement furthermore alleges that the charges have been withdrawn based on insufficient evidence for the case to proceed. This is fake news and a blatant lie.

The SAPS can confirm that this fake news circulating is “irresponsible and malicious, and only seeking to create havoc and as well as undermine Police efforts to work closely with the community of Eldorado Park.”

It is also regarded as inconsiderate actions directed towards the bereaving relatives of the late Nathaniel Julie’s.

The SAPS, therefore, cautions against anyone found to be distributing or spreading these fake rumours, as they will be prosecuted.
