This week we profile singer, actress, and fierce dancer Busisiwe Thwala better known as CICI. The multi-talented star who was born and raised in Lady Smith, Kwa-Zulu Natal started her singing career in the early days of 2003 with her main influence being traditional pop.

Her singles ‘Runaway’ and ‘Bad Girl’ are the ones who put her on the map in the South African entertainment industry.

The 33-year-old became the winner of the South Africa Artist & Development Association. CICI did not stop there in her career, she furthered it in the acting industry. She played the role of Lihle on the South African drama series Rhythm City and her role on SABC1’s highly popular soap, Generations.

Three years ago, CICI joined Ambitiouz Entertainment which is a South African independent record label. When she joined the record label, she debuted her signing by releasing a heartfelt single titled Iqiniso. Iqiniso is an emotional song looking at the hidden truths of her past relationship, it gives a perspective of what was unknown to the public. The video to the song has since gathered over two million views on YouTube. That success was followed by visuals for her track, Ngidinge, a Zulu term translating to ‘Need Me’ taken from her self-titled album.

The success keeps on coming with the artist as she took home three 15th Annual Metro FM Awards for Best RnB single, Best Styled Album, and best compilation feature. She has also been awarded the SABC Summer song winner and landed herself in the SABC most played song Top Ten category.

Last year, the star found herself being cast in Khanyi Mbau’s thriller movie, Red Room, that debuted in cinemas on March 8, and now finds herself being part of The Ferguson’s Kings of Joburg.

On October 23, she released her song titled ‘Hamba Naye’ which features award-winning afro-pop group, Mafikizolo. Hamba Naye is a radio-friendly summer track that aims at celebrating all kinds of love.

“Nothing and no one should ever deny you a chance at love, we keep trying and giving love a chance even though it is not easy. Working with Mafikizolo was amazing, they are among the best in the music industry and I could not have chosen anyone else. We all gave this song our best, but I really did not expect to debut at number one across all genres for two days, it is so exciting. I am so grateful for all the love and support that the song received,” she said.

Hamba Naye is now on over 30 thousand views on YouTube and is among the chart-topping songs on iTunes and is available for streaming and downloading on all digital platforms.
