Political Group of Hip Hop releases a powerful song.

Soundz of the South a political Hip Hop collective working to build an international working-class counter-culture that is anti-authoritarian, anti-capitalist, anti-racist, and anti-sexist has released a brand new single and Music Video ‘For Power’, they have never been as relevant, powerful, and important.

The Music Video and single FOR POWER was launched on Friday, October 23 on all music platforms. The group describes ‘FOR POWER’ as a powerful song that sheds light on the various impacts of the capitalist crisis: exploitation, neoliberalism, and the effects on access to quality healthcare for working-class people.

“The song responds to South African realities: the state of the plunder of the public purse, government’s role in deepening and entrenching capitalist exploitation as well as police brutality during these days of national lock-down,” they stated in a press release.

The music video is a moving portrayal and shows the perpetual difficulties workers go through to make ends meet. The story follows various characters all battling their plights in the face of the virus all set in similar neighborhoods to where Soundz of South lives in spaces like Enkanini in Khayelitsha or neighboring areas like Hangberg in Hout Bay.

As a collective, they say they aim to remain true to Hip Hop origins of being a tool for the oppressed. Its lineage can be traced back to park jams and street corner cyphers where young people were using hip-hop to speak to their experiences of struggle.
