Damage to police vehicles affect policing in Eldorado Park

Consequences of damage to state vehicles.

On Friday, September 18, Eldorado Park SAPS members arrested and charged a 26-year-old male for malicious damage to property of a state motor vehicle.

Communications officer, Constable Roxanne Gibb said: “Community members need to be made aware of the negative impact that damaging of state vehicles and resources have on policing.

Damage to resources results in delays in effecting service delivery, emergency response to vulnerable persons, and reduced police visibility.

“Overall this has a negative impact on service delivery and police response times to life and death emergency call outs and situations.”

The communications officer added that damaged vehicles have to be sent for repairs, resulting in shortages of vehicles to provide Service Delivery to communities, which results in dissatisfaction in policing levels.

“Complaints and complainants then have to wait for long hours for police response to emergencies and complaints.

“Response for critical complaints such as house robberies, domestic violence, murder, or all emergencies in progress are affected negatively due to damaged vehicles at the garage for repairs.”

“This is a call on the community to respect the resources that have been allocated to serve and protect the community, crime prevention, and investigation of crime.

“SAPS has your best interests at heart. This partnership between the SAPS and community is to ensure safer communities for all to live in,” said Gibb.

Anyone found to disregard and damage state property and vehicles will be committing a crime, and will face serious repercussions and consequences including arrests, detention and conviction. This can result in imprisonment if found to be guilty of such an offense and payments for damages inflicted on state resources.
