Midas Sports Development Programme needs the community’s help in participating in a youth survey. The organization was established in 2009 and moved to Eldorado Park in 2015. Midas Sports Development Programme is based directly behind Eldorado Park Secondary School (The Blue School) where the organisation has established a sports centre in partnership with the school.

“Our aim is to improve the quality of life and academic performance of our youth through engagement in team sports.

“The youth are unlikely to participate in illicit activities such as drug use and distribution.

“The information obtained from this questionnaire will give us insights into the problem areas within Eldorado Park that our programmes could potentially address,” explained Zayd Fredericks from Midas Sports Development.

Over the years, Fredericks mentioned that they have grown from just having an academy’s league in football to having a team with the Eldorado Park Local Football Association and a team in the South African Football Association’s SAB’s league.

“We have also included netball and hockey and we will also be introducing ladies’ football where they will play small-sided games.

“We plan on starting with small girls first. We have over 400 children participating in our programmes.

“The survey is important because we really want to identify over and above sports what’s needed for the children’s well-being and their psychological needs and build on it.

We currently have a library on our site where children can come and read and do their homework, we also plan on introducing courses. Our facility becomes a clean safe space for children to grow and develop.

“The big question for Eldorado Park is ‘What else can we do to improve the children’s life’s?’ What we already found from the survey which we never thought of was bullying.

“Bullying has impacted a big part of our community’s youth.

“The survey isn’t about us as a structure but we want to develop our community,” concluded Fredericks.
