After delivery the mother and baby were rushed to Dobsonville Clinic.

According to constable Busi Mafunwani they were busy with their crime prevention duties when they heard a call out in their FRM radio stating that there was a problem in the above-mentioned house.

Upon arrival, they found two-sector cars parked outside. She said when they got into the yard, they noticed that everyone was calm and seemed so relieved when they noticed that the was a female cop amongst them.

“I noticed there were broken glasses on the ground the window was smashed, I was welcomed by sounds of a groaning woman who was in labour,” she said.

Mafunwani said the shack had a burglar gate that was locked and inside the was a little girl who could be between ages 5-7 years old. She said she asked the little girl to open the door for her, but the key was nowhere to be found

By the sounds, Mafunwani could tell that the mother was in pain. She then asked the lady to calm down and direct the child where she kept her spare key of which she did, and the baby girl opened the burglar gate.

“I entered the shack and found the mother laying in a pool of blood on top of her bed. The lady was in labour her bundle of joy head and shoulders were already out. I asked the lady who does she stay with besides her daughter? she then mentioned that she stays with her boyfriend who was out at the time trying to hire a car to take her to the clinic,” explained Mafunwani.

She further stated that one of her colleagues came into the room with the news that they are coming from Dobsonville Clinic in attempts to try and get an ambulance but was told that they only respond to complaints received via their emergency call centre.

“It was then that I took a decision to help the lady even though it was not my line of work, My colleagues gave me a pair of fresh gloves, an apron and disposable masks for me and the mother to be.

“I made a quick call to a friend of mine who is a nurse by profession and quickly explained the situation to her. she took me step by step through the delivery over the phone which was on the loudspeaker that constable Nhlamulo Ndlebe held close to my ear.

“We successfully helped deliver a bouncing baby boy with ten fingers and ten toes, I carefully wrapped the’ baby with its blankets meanwhile my CST Ndlebe helped the mother get dressed and organised the babies nappy bag,” explained Mafunwani.

She said they then rushed both the mother and child to Dobsonvlle clinic and upon arrival at the clinic the nurses took over and they checked the baby and confirmed he was healthy.
