MEC Faith Mazibuko concerned that Sowetans are not adhering to lockdown rules since Level 3 commenced

Okae Molao Soweto?

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Luternent General Elias Mawela together with Gauteng MEC of safety Faith Mazibuko embarked on operation Okae Molao in Moroka, Chiawelo and Eldorado park.

It all started with a road block in the Golden Highway that lead to a traffic officer being busted with alcohol in his vehicle, undocumented people travelling without permits, and a taxi that was coming from Bloemfontein traveling with passengers with no permits and minors travelling alone. The operation later moved to Tjovitjo informal settlement in Freedom park where they had a walk about in the area educating people about coronavirus.

General Mawela raised concerns about the issue of people not adhering to the rules due to alcohol in level 3 and reminded people to buy their alcohol and drink at home. He explained that they have a plan in place to deal with those who do not follow the regulations.

MEC Mazibuko said they received a complain that there are people who do not comply to the rules and regulations of the lockdown.

She said it is alleged that there are people who walk without masks and children are always playing outside in the streets.

“We were just sharing with them information about the virus and educating people more about it and how to be safe,” she said.

Two arrested for working without permits.

Mazibuko raised concerns about health issues in Tjovitjo where they do not have enough water and no proper ablution blocks.

The operation was joined by Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), South African National Defence force (SANDF), SA immigration, Tracker SA, South African Police Service, CEO of Gauteng liquor board.
