Recycling heroes efforts recognised

Recycling Heroes honoured for their dedication in taking care of the environment.

Ten recycling heroes received top accolades when they were rewarded with school fees for a year, school uniforms, stationery and laptops for showing extraordinary commitment in greening the earth at the Schools Recycling Awards at the Pyramid Conference Centre in Johannesburg last Tuesday.

The 10 pupils from the top 10 schools showed great dedication even though some of them were only in the foundation phase and it looked as if carrying recyclable waste to school would be a hard task for their tiny bodies.

The event was hosted by the Amalgamated Beverage Industries (ABI), the soft drink division of South African Breweries (SAB) supported by the PET Recycling Company (PETCO) at the Pyramid Conference Centre in Johannesburg last Tuesday.

“On behalf of our partners, we would like to congratulate all our winners for an outstanding effort in greening their schools.

“We thank and commend the teachers who supported this learning opportunity to enhance the educational experiences for pupils and pass on valuable life skills to them,” said sustainable development manager at ABI, Gaopaleloe Mothoagae.

The top business collector received R50 000 for collecting at different schools.
