Roads will be closed for Diabetic cycle relay

Cyclists to raise awareness for diabetes.

Several roads will be closed briefly on November 7, for the annual Novo Nordisk Changing Diabetes Cycle Relay.

The cyclists are raising awareness for diabetes.

The 48-hour, 1,200 kilometre marathon will begin at the Novo Nordisk Head Office, which is situated at Rivonia Boulevard in Edenberg.

Lesego Mongale the PR representative for the race said four cyclist teams will start at 10am and travel along Rivonia Road into Sandton.

“The road will be closed while the convoy of cyclists and support vehicles moves through the central business district, and will re-open as soon as it has passed. After leaving Sandton, the convoy will turn into St Andrews Road and, from there, into Jan Smuts Avenue. Once in Braamfontein, it will cross the Queen Elizabeth Bridge into Simmonds Street and will progress through central Johannesburg, finally heading south along Booysens Road,” she said.

Mongale said that the cyclists will enter Soweto by Masupha Street.

“From there it will move along Sofasonke Street, Chris Hani Road and Klipsruit Road. It will leave via Abubaker Asvat Road on its way along the R12 to Potchefstroom and, from there, across the country to George,” she said.

In Soweto, the Cyclists will stop at Diepkloof Zone 1 Library.
