Bona Comprehensive School electricity bill high due to illegal connection

The school has been paying the bill for the shack dwellers of Nomzamo (also known as Lahlamlenze).

Bona Comprehensive High School in Orlando East has been paying a high bill of electricity for some time now without even knowing that they are paying for the shack dwellers of Nomzamo (also known as Lahlamlenze) a neighboring squatter camp.

On Thursday last week, a passerby made the teachers of the school aware of the illegal cable that was connected to the school.

The educators tried to follow the cable to see if it was really connected to their School only to find that indeed the cable runs from the Nomzam via the road to their School.

One of the educators at the school Yolanda Mahalefa said they tried going to Diepkloof Eskom to report but they were close by that time and decided to report at Orlando Police station.

Eskom spokesperson Tumi Mashinini confirmed that they are aware of the matter and they will be removing all illegal connections in the area.
