Community based planning for Ward 13 in Protea Glen

The objective was to consult with stakeholders at ward level to identify ward priorities for inclusion into the draft 2020/2021 IDP which will be tabled at Council in March 2020.

Ward 13 held a workshop in Protea Glen hall  to discuss the 2020/21 IDP , budget and tariffs and community based planning .

As per invitation, the City of Johannesburg invited stakeholders to the consultation process in terms of the local government municipal Act (32 of 2000) and municipal finance management Act (56 of 2003), which mandates the city to develop a culture of participatory governance to encourage and create a condition for the community to participate in the Integrated Development Planning (IDP) and budget processes.

The objective was to consult with stakeholders at ward level to identify ward priorities for inclusion into the draft 2020/2021 IDP which will be tabled at Council in March 2020.

Community members were asked to state what they value in their community, what is going well within the community and also to discuss the achievements.

During the course of the workshop, priority plans for ward 14 were listed which are : a complete storm drainage system from Extension 1,to reach Protea City, Eco Park from Emndeni link to Protea Glen Extension 8 , a clinic or a swimming pool ( one still have to be chosen among-st the two, after finding proper information on the kind of the Clinic that will be build at Naledi Extension 2).

A request to have ward committee members trained so they have the ability to do their duties properly was proposed.

The community also discussed on ways to make money flow in and not out of the economy, what they value in the community.

The asset inventory system was discussed focusing on the following: human assets,social assets, physical assets, and natural assets.Attendants were then divided into two groups to make up a discussion, one person was then selected per group to present their findings and thoughts on assets discussed.

The community awaits a report concerning the ward priority plans.
