Naledi residents feud over Pikitup project

The residents have requested that the counselor shift his focus from community projects and appoint a steering committee that will deal with the projects.

Residents of Naledi extension two, held a meeting last week to speak about the upcoming Pik-it-Up project that is on the verge of taking place.

The residents raised their concerns about the project which they believe things are not going accordingly.

According to  Nonhlanhla Nkosi, ward counselor Thomas Makapane Mokoena, had called a community meeting and informed the residents about the project that will take place and promised to send emails to those who own SMMEs so they can have a separate meeting and submit the companies documents to be looked at so that they can be granted an opportunity to work on the project.

It is alleged that none of the things that were discussed in the meeting went accordingly. Residents feel that the CLO that was selected is not a proper candidate for the CLO position that was advertised.

“We feel that the candidate should have been chosen from members within Naledi extension 2, not Protea North,” said Nkosi. However Naledi 2 and Protea North fall under the same region and all form a part of ward 14. “We don’t even know where the main contractor is from, we were never informed,” she added.

The residents have requested that the counselor shift his focus from community projects and appoint a steering committee that will deal with the projects. It was also alleged that the counselor is not working hand in hand with his ward committee members.

While conducting an interview with counselor Makapane, he ensured the media that emails were sent to SMMEs and also mentioned that he is not the one responsible for hiring a CLO if residents have an issue with that, they can go to Jabulani ( at the regional director) where CVs were submitted and loge their query.

Sibusioso Ndaba, a ward committee member said that, the counselor informs them about anything that has to do with the people of the ward, “in terms of employment, we employ people according to the book that has all the names of people looking for employment within the community, people are therefore selected randomly,” he added.

It is proved that six meeting were held with the community concerning the upcoming project, three of the meetings were public participants.

The counselor concluded by saying “hurt people with the truth and not comfort people with lies”.

He also added that allegations that the clinic project will not take place if residents are not happy about the processes used in employing people for the upcoming project are nothing but lies.
