Four men arrested in separate incidents

The station commander, Colonel Irvy Maota thanked the police for the good work and also thanked the community for assisting the police with information.

The police arrested a 40-year old man for possession of a suspected stolen property in Protea North. According to police spokesperson, Vincent Mashiteng, the police received a tip-off about a man selling a cellphone on Mdlalose Street and they quickly went to the scene and found him in possession of a cellphone he was selling.

“He failed to explain to the police where he got the cellphone and he was arrested for possession of the suspected stolen property and he will appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court,” said Mashiteng.

In another incident, a 32-year old man will appear in the same court on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm. This comes after the police received a tip-off about a man who was reported to be having a firearm.

“The police responded quickly and found the man in possession of an unlicensed firearm in Protea South after searching him,” said Mashiteng.

He said the firearm was a revolver with serial numbers filed off and the weapon had no ammunition. The suspect failed to explain where he got the firearm and an investigation is underway to link the firearm with crimes committed in Protea South and other areas.

During another zero tolerance operation made by the police, two men aged 21 and 30-years old were arrested for attempted murder and murder respectively.

The two suspects were arrested in Protea South and Pretoria respectively. The police were investigating a case of attempted murder that occurred in Protea South on September 7 after receiving information that the suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm in Lenasia South.

He was found in possession of a 9mm Pistol with serial numbers filed off. The suspect was linked with Protea Glen attempted murder case including the firearm and the gun was also linked with a murder case that occurred in August this year in Protea South.

An investigation led the police to Pretoria where they arrested the second suspect for the same murder of Protea South. The two suspects will appear in the Protea Magistrate’s court as well.
