Easing the flow during that time of the month

Reusable and washable towels.

Every month, girls experience their menstrual cycle. Those who cannot afford to buy sanitary towels face a very difficult time as they do not know where to turn to.

This is a sad reality for many girls and some have even raised the question to ask ‘ why is it difficult for the government to donate free sanitary towels in schools rather than donating condoms which they feel only increases promiscuous behaviour among learners.

An organisation which has responded to the call and is willing to assist our girl children is the Tshedza Disability Skills Development.

Tshedza donated more than 100 washable towels towards the school.

Molly Netsianda is the group founder and she said, ” knowing how it is to use toilet paper or a cloth just so you don’t strain yourself with blood during that time of the month is something that one cannot run away from.”

“It is sad that only a few people are trying everything in their powers to help where it is possible even though it is not enough because this is a monthly experience that each female goes through.”

Let no girl child miss school.

Having to endure the period pains that come with it and the stress of knowing that you can’t afford to buy pads for yourself because your situation does not allow you to is another issue many young girls have to contend with.

As one of their outreach programmes, the group have committed themselves to ensure that a girl child stays in schools and is not forced to miss out because of her cycle.

Netsianda went out to seek donations for children who can’t afford to buy sanitary towels and Kelokitso Secondary School in Meadowlands received that donation of reusable pads.
