The entrepreneurship journey of Koketso Sylvia Milosevic

From rags to riches.

Koketso Sylvia Milosevic is a clear embodiment of what success looks like through sheer hard work, faith and consistency. She’s overcome odds that would have seemed like the end of the world to the person who lacks grit and persistence.

Born in Ga-Rankuwa, Pretoria, Sylvia is an ordinary township girl who was raised in a good, loving home. Her entrepreneurial mindset began as a seed when her father, who was the breadwinner, lost his job, which led to her family experiencing adversity, her father falling into depression and later resorting to alcohol.

It was such circumstances that gave her a new pair of glasses she could use to look at life. Her outlook was changed by her home situation, and that’s when she decided, at the age of 16, that she would never rely on a job.

Post matric, Koketso moved to Johannesburg, where she found her first job in Montecasino, which allowed her to take care of her family, from her parents, siblings school fees and her grandparents. At the age of twenty-one, the young lady from Ga-Rankuwa was offered an opportunity to go work oversees.

It was during this time of her life that she experienced the light bulb go off in her mind when her parents bought her a book on a property for her twenty-first birthday. She marks this as the turning point in her life, and the moment the seed that she planted when she was 16 started taking root.

“I started reading books on property, and when I came home for vacation, or leave, I would buy property left and right, and then go back oversees where I met my husband who also started investing with me in South Africa.

“They planned to return to South Africa with a massive portfolio of property, but upon returning, Sylvia and her husband realized that they had the right plan but were in business with a company that was not licensed. That resulted in a huge loss of money and time, but these shortfalls later worked to her advantage because she learned from them,” Koketso explained.

The serial entrepreneur is grateful for the mentorship that was provided by a professional property investment company from the United Kingdom (UK) because it helped her and her husband rebuild their dream of not relying on the job, but multiple streams of passive income.

She then co-founded Wealth Alliance which has been operating for two years and has empowered over thirty thousand students who aspire to be investors in property through their program: Wealth Alliance -Think and Grow Rich.

“One needs to find what they’re passionate about. What’s that one thing you’re good at, that one thing that gets you excited?! Choose that one thing, find out what it is, make it your life’s mission to find that one thing, and when you’ve found it. You need to dedicate all your energy to that one thing.

“You have to carve out time, block out time every single day. Wake up at six o’clock in the morning. The first two hours of your morning, Monday to Friday, dedicate them towards your craft. It takes time and it takes patience but it will be worth your while,” said the entrepreneur.

Koketso recently ventured into a new endeavour, a speakers programme where she will be helping young entrepreneurs gain skills on how to promote their business.
