The Tall Tree winter soccer and netball tournament is set to start in July at the Zola Sports Facility

Who will take the trophy home in 2019?

Next month will be an exciting month for sports junkies as followers of the beautiful game can look forward to 7 days of competitive sporting action with different teams from the various provinces, the Tall Tree winter soccer and netball tournament is set to start in July at Zola Sports Facility.

The annual tournament will host 32 clubs per division from U7 to U20 it will kick start on Monday 1 July and the finals will be played on the last of day of the tournament. With clubs from KZN, Free State, North West, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Cape Town and Gauteng.

The winners will take home cash prize, training soccer balls, soccer jersey, t-shirts and caps. Individual awards will also be handed out for player, goalkeeper and top goal scorer of the tournament.

Tournament organizer and Zola 7 stars coach Sikhumbuzo Nxumalo said he is inviting big development teams to come and scout young talent, he said he not pleased with the development of players because players are not exposed to advanced competitions at a young age whereas in other countries young players selected to represent their national team.

“I want to see these young stars getting opportunities and play abroad, most importantly to make these boys to bond and know each other from grass root level so when they meet in Bafana Bafana one day they can easily adjust its important for players to be scouted at an early age to play advanced level football” said Nxumalo.

All teams are invited to participate, to book space teams can pay an affiliation fee ranging from R 250 to R450 for junior teams U11 to U17 and senior teams are expected to pay a fee of R 800 to R 1 200.
