First ever Face of Secondary Schools crowned.

A Protea Glen teenager has won a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel abroad. 14-year-old Tshiamo Monaisa from extension 8 was crowned as the first Face of Secondary Schools South Africa.

The young model from Mapetla High School was handed a R10 000 cheque last Friday during the school’s assembly last Friday as part of her winnings.

She will also be travelling to China later in the year as part of her prizes for winning the Face of Secondary Schools.

Monaisa showed the most commitment and dedication to the pageant according to Face of Secondary Schools Events Co-ordinator, Trevor Dlamini.

The winners of Face of Secondary Schools SA Nontobeko Mwelase, Tshiamo Monaisa, Ayanda Kutta and Busi Nxumalo.

“She was very committed from the start, she even offered to train other children from her school. She didn’t want to win alone, she was very thoughtful,” Dlamini continued.

Julia Monaisa, the mother to the Face of Secondary Schools SA winner, Tshiamo Monaisa was ecstatic beyond words about her daughter’s win.

She could not believe that her child would be going to China and was thankful for the opportunity that had been made available to her daughter.

Winners are selected based, not on their beauty or walk, but the kind of lifestyle they lead. The young people who participate in this battle of secondary schools are encouraged to lead the kind of lifestyle that will motivate their peers.

The pageant was started with the aim of giving young children in secondary schools that will allow them to engage in productive extracurricular activities.

“It is no secret that most young people in our country are drug users and young girls are sleeping around with older men in exchange for fine things in life…

“The face of Secondary Schools SA drives young people away from drugs and teenage pregnancy,” said Oscar Mabuza, founder of Devotion For Success Entertainment which hosts various pageants annually.

In the first ever Face of Secondary Schools, SA six schools took part, Mapetla High School, Tetelo Secondary School, Vuwani Secondary School, Naledi High School, Forte High School and Bhukulani High School.

The pageant will return for a second time, where like the first time there will be no registration fees as the organizers want to help as many young people to build confidence and their public speaking skills.
