Dr. SK Matseke Memorial Hospital in Diepkloof to offer cardiac services

More heart attack patients will be saved and given a chance to live longer lives after the Clinix Health Group was granted a license from the Gauteng Department of Health to operate a cardiac services facility at its Dr. SK Matseke Memorial Hospital in Diepkloof, Soweto.

Dr. Mpho Sebesho, A Cardiologist explained that before the cardiac services facility was installed in the hospital, the patient had to be transferred to a hospital that has the facilities.



Sebesho said, “When a patient has a heart attack, time is a huge factor, the patient has a window of 90 minutes before the heart muscle starts to die.”

Kgolo Matseke, the Dr. SK Matseke Memorial Hospital’s Manager, mentioned that “The addition of specialist cardiac facilities to the hospital’s existing services enhances the value of the hospital to the residents of Soweto.”

He added, “We will now be able to comprehensively look after patients who suffer from heart attacks and heart failure and those who require procedures such as a heart bypass. We already have a number of patients who have been treated in the new facilities.“

Sebesho said, “We started utilising the Cath Lab facilities on January 14, and we are very pleased that our cardiac patients won’t have to be moved to another hospital during an emergency.”
