LISTEN: Morris Isaacson Secondary School had lots of challenges on their first day

Discipline on the first day.

Morris Isaacson Secondary School had lots of challenges on their first day at schools such as late coming, late registration, and hairstyles that are not allowed in the school premises.

The Department of Education is renovating nine classrooms to install smart boards. During the school, Assembly learners were motivated to change their attitude and improve the school record marks.

Member of School Govern Body (SGB) said the learners need to change their attitude and follow the school rules because their attitude contributes towards the school percentage and there on a mission to improve their pass rate.

One of the parents Nompi Mokuka said, “It’s not safe for learners to stand outside the schoolyard because they might engage in wrong activities. We are not promoting the hairstyles but they should allow them for today in order for them to receive school stationery.”

However, the learners were allowed in the school premises and they were urged to change their hairstyle and wear school uniform because the following day they won’t allow them to enter the school premises.

The school Principal Mr Khanyile said they are ready for 2019 as they have issued out the school stationery and teachers received the school timetable. He mentioned that the school has dropped from 64% to 54%.

“Our learners didn’t achieve what we wanted them to achieve. Matriculants’ results are not good but it will take us as the teacher, SGB members, and other stakeholders involved making an extra effort and supporting us.

“We urge parents to support and involve themselves because sometimes we try to engage parents but they don’t come forward.

“The school is on a mission to improve their pass rate. They want to introduce a new culture to learners whereby learners will attend morning and afternoon classes from Grade 10 to matric. They aim to strive for excellence but at the same time not putting pressure on them.”
