MEC Lesufi’s head held up HIGH

Hard work finally pays off.

It is no secret that MEC Panyaza Lesufi is walking with his head help up high following a successful 2018. The Gauteng Department of Education achieved 87.9% pass rate ranking it as the best performing province in the country. The pass rate bettered that of 2017 by 2.8%.

GDE congratulated MEC Lesufi and Head of Department, Edward Mosuwe on the long journey they both endured travelling around the province, meeting with parents, teachers, learners and officials to encourage better performance.

Tweets in support of this massive achievement have been pouring in on Twitter from many people via the #Matric2018.

In 2017, a total of 97 284 Gauteng learners wrote and total achieved was 82 826. Last year, 94 870 wrote and 83 406 achieved. If we add all the numbers together, 534 484 sat for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) in 2018 and only 401 435 achieved. Whereas in 2018, only 400 761 passed, out of a total of 512 735 that wrote.

The African National Congress in Gauteng is chuffed at the claiming of top spot following 2018 matric results. A statement issued by ANC Gauteng provincial spokesperson, Tasneem Motara, said, “The sterling performance by the class of 2018 and the entire education fraternity in the province under the stewardship of MEC Panyaza Lesufi is a tale of persistence, sacrifice and visionary leardership.

“We could not be more proud of this outcome which confirms that the goal that the ANCGP set itself five years ago to transform and modernise our education system through decisive interventions is bearing fruits”.
