Motsepe Foundation gifts toys to 20 000 Soweto children

The Motsepe foundation brings Christmas to the people.

Motsepe Foundation’s Christmas With Our People initiative hit Orlando Stadium yesternoon. The initiative gifted 20 000 children between the ages of 0 and 15 years with toys as Christmas gifts.

“With this specific project we realised that at this time of the year where there is the spirit of giving between families, there are children who have nobody to give them a toy because their parents couldn’t afford it so we started this,” explained Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, co-founder of The Motsepe Foundation.

The initiative was supported by many local acts such as Kwetsa, DJ Tira, AKA and internationally renowned supermodel and philanthropist Naomi Campbell.

Campbell alluded to the fact that active citizenry is important, especially in the light of Madiba’s centenary who believed children were the future and spirit of Ubuntu among the people of South Africa.

“Mandela said he wanted to eradicate poverty by 2030 so this is our mission working alongside Global Citizen to try and reach that,” said Campbell.

The Motsepe Foundation will be engaging in a series of campaigns where they will be giving away more toys to children in the lead up to Global Citizen Festival that will see a medley of international and local acts grace the stage at FNB Stadium with the sole purpose of raising funds to eradicate poverty.
