Protea Glen’s Lesego Mathye wants to be the voice for the empowerment of women in her community. The Miss Grace South Africa semi-finalist, however, needs the community’s help getting there.

The pageant is not your conventional pageant as it, according to Mathye, is redefining beauty for women. Contests are women who have overcome challenges and want to help other women in their communities do the same.

“The most important qualities we have to display is the power, courage, confidence and willingness to share their stories,” she said.

Mathye is herself a woman who has overcome challenges. “I experienced gender-based violence in 2014. I have since healed from the experience and I would love to be an ambassador for other women who have gone through the same thing,” she elaborated.

When is not busy positively influencing other women, she works as a social worker and a leader in her local church. Her friend and colleague, Zanele Xorile, describes her as someone who is sweet, direct and approachable.

“She is very beautiful, she is very God-fearing. One thing I can never take away from her is how she always reminds me to pray. Sometimes I feel like she’s 50 in her mind, she’s very mature,” said Xorile when describing the qualities that make her the perfect candidate to be Miss Grace 2019.

Mathye was chosen as a semi-finalist in the pageant and will be travelling to Cape Town for the semi-finalists week.

“Miss Grace SA is an independent organisation and will therefore not be sponsoring any of my flights, hair, make-up and garments so I’m requesting that members of the community assist with this,” said Mathye.

Those who cannot assist with the above mentioned are requested to vote for Mathye by sending an SMS with the words ‘Lesego M’ to 35109. She can be reached via her social media on Facebook: Lesego Nkateko Mathye and on Instagram: Lesego_mgsasemifinalist19.
