Zapiro a guest at Mapetla High annual award ceremony

Zapiro is a South African cartoonist, known as Zapiro, whose work appears in numerous SA publications and has been exhibited internationally on many occasions.

Mapetla High School and its staff hosted their annual award ceremony. The ceremony was held at the school premises and was not only for teachers but for the school’s entire staff as well including the top learners and their parents.

Teachers and the administration staff were awarded as well. The school’s principal, Roseline Maphanga said they had a successful event and congratulated all the people who received awards.



She said the learners and teachers worked hard to achieve the awards and is hoping for this year’s learners to do their best in their studies.

The school did well in their last year’s matric results getting 84.78 percent and 18 distinctions various subjects including Vernac, Science, Economics, Life Science and English.

Top learners included Karabo Songo who obtained four distinctions, Rosina Ramabela with three distinctions and Mpho Motshoeneng with two.

Maphanga thanked the teachers and parents for supporting the learners for the whole year and wished that they can continue doing so next year.

Well-known cartoonist, Jonathan “Zapiro” Shapiro attended the ceremony and was encouraging the learners to always focus on their studies and wished all the matriculants who are sitting for their final examinations a good luck.
