WATCH: Protea Glen based actress chosen to represent SA in the USA

Protea Glen actress set to take on Florida.

“I fell in love with it and for the first time as an 18-year-old I found fulfillment in doing something”, these are the words of Protea Glen based actress Palesa Motloung who has been chosen to represent South Africa in the International Arts Talent Showcase in the United States of America (USA).

Motloung (23) has not always known she’s an actress but once the bug caught her, she immersed herself in it and hasn’t looked back since.

“I got into acting when I was 18 years old, I used to see a lot of young people singing, dancing and acting at the community hall right before my aerobics class so I decided to join them. I initially wanted to sing but it turns out I was meant to do acting,” she explained.

She went through two round of auditions to be chosen to represent South Africa, whereby she won overall actor for the first one which led to her auditioning in front of an international panel that consisted of one of the casting directors for Tyler Perry Studios. She was then chosen from that audition to participate in the international competition.

The competition will be a three-day auditioning process to represent South Africa where she will be competing for best actress with people from all over the world. Motloung notes that South Africa has been winning in most categories for the past eight years and she is confident that it will be no different next year in her category.

This opportunity will not only give her exposure to some of the world’s biggest studios such as Universal Studios, Disney and Tyler Perry studios to name a few, she will also stand a chance of winning a scholarship to the world’s most prestigious film academy the New York Film Academy.

She describes herself as an independent young, Christian woman who is not afraid of working hard to get to where she wants to be. She started a somatology company after graduating from somatology school and has used some of the proceeds to assist her in getting to where she currently is in her acting career.

“I really enjoy acting, I love doing it! Our acting coach, Mlamli [Maloi] identified this greatness in me and enlarged it. I didn’t even know I was good at it until I was exposed to it, it was so natural and so good,” said Motloung.

She will be going to Florida in July 2019 and is requesting the community’s help in getting funding to travel and stay there during the duration of the auditions.

“I think every cent counts because I know I will get the scholarship for the New York Film Academy so I will need to go back and they will only be paying for my tuition, everything else will be on me so I will take all the help I can get,” she concluded.
