Extended Social Package can be registered for at the Zola Office
Changes in social packages.
The manner in which things have been done is slowly changing in local municipalities as new policies and systems are being put in place and implemented.
As a result of some changes in government and municipal administration, councillors have been faced with challenges of having to turn away many individuals who are in need of help.
For the longest time, community councillors were once able to assist the community with state and indigent burials but that feature in municipalities is soon about to change.
“The reality in our communities is that many people are so poor that some are unable to pay for burials and people have no choice but to seek help.
“People come flocking to our offices when there is a funeral and they all seek assistance, be it assistance with food or both food and the burial itself, but in the previous administration they used to come to the office and we would be able to assist them through the help of the city.
“The challenge now is that things are not the same anymore under this current administrations. Under this administration, residents are required to register under the Extended Social Package and only after they have been registered will they be able to get any assistance from the municipal,” said Monamodi.
The ESP can be registered for at the Zola Office and the individual registering would need to bring their I.D, 3-month bank statement to shop that you are unemployed or an affidavit that states that you are unemployed if you do not have a bank statement as well as.
“What is different about the way things are done this time around is the fact that previously we did not ask for all these documents, all you needed was the relevant documents that confirm details about the deceased.
“Currently you need to register so that you can have an ESP number and only then will we assist you, if you do not have an ESP number then from now on we will not assist you at all, hence we are trying to advise the community so that you attain that number beforehand.
“At some stage, the social burial packages were stopped by the city and as a result, there were no claims being processed but then recently they have brought back these burial services under the city’s Extended Social Package,” said Monamodi.
