New wheels for house bound gogos

Ester Mokoena said, "Some grannies were always in their houses and could no longer go to church or visit relatives."

Kasi Aiders are not only focusing on helping the community through sports, but they have also taken it upon themselves to provide assistance in other areas.

Gift Seakatsie, Sakie Rakgoale, and Freddy Sono are the people who have taken the initiative to provide first aid support during sporting activities to ensure that the injured are stabilised before being taken to hospital for treatment.

Rakgoale said, “The first time we started this we didn’t think the initiative would grow this big but we pledged that we would provide help wherever possible.”

There are no health practitioners or first aiders at any of the sporting events in the community and the trio decided to fill this gap. The ward 45 residents received assistance from Kasi aiders who donated wheelchairs to 10 grannies who are no longer able to walk themselves to the clinic.

To many, it was difficult for them to go out and do their daily activities as they were always indoors and did not have proper wheelchairs. The wheelchair donation has helped so many grannies who are now able to keep their appointments at the clinic.

Ester Mokoena was very happy when she received a wheelchair and thanked the Kasi First Aiders team for looking after their elders.

Mokoena said, “Some grannies were always in their houses and could no longer go to church or visit relatives.”

Rakgoale added, “Our situations are different and within our communities, we are happy that our grannies will be able to utilise the wheelchairs wisely and that life will be easier for them and their families.”

Councillor Hilton Masera and the MDN Taxi Association also helped in transporting our elders to collect the custom-made wheelchairs.
