Top Class introduces a reading club to help learners improve

Top Class Tutoring Institute always there for your child.

Top Class Tutoring Institute has introduced yet another solution for learners who are struggling and those who would like to improve in class.

The institute has been serving the community as one of the top tutoring institutes in Pimville, with a lot of testimonies from parents to attest to that.

“We have realised that most of our learners can’t read, and if learners cannot read, it’s difficult for them to express themselves.

“Hence the introduction of Top Class Reading Club, running from Monday-Thursday from 4:30 pm to 6 pm to assist our learners with reading. Learners who are not part of the institute are also welcome,” said Philisiwe Chonco, Top Class founder and tutor.

The Institute is currently based at Musi High School in Pimville and for now, the reading club is only for Grade 4 and 5. With the introduction of the University of Johannesburg’s Anthropology student Matshidiso Moloi, who is also the founder of ‘Bala Buka African Libraries’ which currently operates on Whatsapp and has been running for a year, Top Class believes that they can make a difference.

“The main aim of the library is telling the African story, through African literature. What we have identified is that, when you go to libraries, you find access to European Authored books but it is rare to find African authored books, So I saw a gap in the market, that there is a shortage of people telling African stories, with the African perspective. What we do is that we buy African authored books, and use them to teach learners literature,” said Moloi.

“With the Top-Class Tutoring Institute, we have lessons that are focusing on African literature, we want our learners to relate.

“Imagine reading a book with the setting being Pimville or Orlando, that’s definitely going to be exciting and fascinating at the same time for these learners,” she added.

This initiative is also geared at encouraging and motivating those who would like to become authors because reading a book written by a local author will indeed give them hope. For more enquiries, contact Philisiwe Chonco on 073 817 6126.
