VIDEO: Springboks empowering young people through coaching & rugby clinic

Boks take rugby to the township.

In light of keeping aspirate players motivated in the game, our team of Springboks graced the streets of Soweto in a coaching and rugby clinic.

Starting off their journey at the famous Vilakazi Street in Orlando, the Springboks warmed the hearts of Soweto’s Mighty Eagles along with several other teams from all corners of the province.

Conducting their coaching clinics at Jabulani Technical Secondary, the team of 17 Springboks re-ignited the burning flame to be a player in more than 100 Boys and Girls who attended the clinic.

Aimed at refining rugby skills at a ground level, the clinic was also graced by the presence of the Golden Lions team coach who represented the South African Elite Players Development Programme and shared his experience with the players.

“It’s wonderful for us to be able to give back in a small way like this and to hopefully plant a seed with these kids to pursue their dream of playing rugby,” said Springboks prop Tendai Mtawarira.

“The basics of fitness and some technical skills were touched on include giving tips on how people could better perform tackles for example.

“I learnt a few new things and I learnt on how I can improve on some of the things I already know.

“The nice thing is that we are getting professional advice from someone we admire and someone who has full experience of what he is talking about,” said Nkosinathi Khumalo a player from Alex Wolves.

The Springboks team was honoured to able to come to Soweto and be able to give back to Soweto player and be able to plough back to local communities.
