A pregnant mother reported to Eye Witness News (EWN) on March 19 that she had a traumatic experience of having to wait three days before her baby was removed from her being.

According to the article by Mia Lindeque, a journalist at EWN, the woman lost her baby and due to the high demand for caesarean operations at the Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital in Coronationville, the mother had to wait.

The article mentions that the mother arrived with a referral letter and was told that her baby’s heart had stopped beating.

The article had the following statements in: “On Monday, I noticed the baby kicking like she wanted to come out,” the mother sobbed as she told EWN that a week ago her baby was still alive but on Tuesday she started experiencing cramps and was told her baby had died.

“Walking around the hospital with her visibly large baby bump, her husband spoke of how the fetus was only removed three days later on Friday night. “Imagine for three days, if somebody knows that already you’ve lost your baby, take it out,” he said.

When the hospital was contacted for comment, the chairperson of the board Theresa van der Merwe said that she has forwarded the matter to the CEO and the Superintendent Dr Frew Benson.

“They have assured me however that the matter is being dealt with,” she said.
