Police warn motorists to be more cautious on the R553 (Golden Highway)

The Golden Highway is a crime hotspot.

Last year, the Eldorado Park police sent out a warning to the Greater Eldorado Park community, telling them that they should be careful along certain parts of the Golden Highway.

It is of utmost importance that caution is displayed in these areas as people are getting robbed and their vehicles get hijacked.

According to captain Phillemon Khorombi, the spokesperson for the Eldorado Park SAPS, said, “On February 13, in the early hours of the morning three unknown suspects robbed the victim of his vehicle.

“The victim here was with his friends after they had performed their rituals. They then saw the three suspects, which two of them were armed with firearms.”

According to the captain, one of the suspects then pointed the driver of the car telling him to get out of the car. He said, “The victims were tied up with shoelaces and then searched and five cell-phones were taken by the suspects and used the suspect drove off with the victim’s car.”

On the R553 (Golden Highway) on your way to Fun Valley, on the right-hand side of the bridge, there is an area where people perform their rituals and some are even baptising people in that water.

This is a dangerous area and is considered a crime hot spot. People are warned to stay clear of this area as suspects tend to steal victim’s cars as well as their belongings. Be cautious at all times and drive safely, and for those who are walking, always check your six.
