Graphic Content: The mysterious murder of Sifiso in Coronationville

The police are still investigating the murder.

On February 3, the Souls family in Coronationville was awakened by the sounds of shattering glass [window] at about 3 am. According to Angus Souls, when he went to check on the window, he found that it was indeed broken and a man was laying there covered in blood.

The family was too afraid to go out as they thought that this might be a trap for a possible house robbery.

“I looked at the man and the strangest thing was that he just said ‘morning’,” said Souls. The man then went on the other side of the house and broke another three more windows.

“He broke the windows with his fists. I think he must have cut his wrists while doing that because of the blood. After phoning the cops, we waited for them indoors since we couldn’t go outside as we were too scared,” said wife, Madge Souls.

The man then jumped the wall into Jean Corry’s yard [neighbour], and broke another window. Immediately after that, it became silent until the moment Sophiatown police arrived.

“The police were here in 15 minutes, I must say that they and the paramedics arrived sooner than I expected,” said Madge.

Upon arrival, the police followed the blood trail and discovered that the man was lying dead in Corry’s yard.

According to Corry, when the forensic specialists examined the body, the man had a gash on his forehead, three stab wounds on his upper body, (two on the front and one on his back).

The man had his cellphone, ID document, and credit cards. According to Elaine Kerr, who walked with the police to follow the blood trail outside of the yard, they discovered that the man started bleeding from Rahima Moosa Hospital and went all the way up into Malmesburg street.

According to Shantel Dagama who answered the deceased’s cellphone when his girlfriend’s mother called. The man was identified as Sifiso, and he left his pregnant girlfriend at the hospital as she had to undergo a C-section.

“When I spoke to the girlfriend, she said that he told her that he was just going to sleep downstairs and then will catch a taxi when the sun rises,” said Dagama.

Sifiso lived in Diepsloot. It remains unclear as to what really happened to him but it shocked many Coronationville residents.

“They need to cut these bushes here by the hospital. This man was probably attacked there, “said Kerr.

The man’s jacket was found at the gates of the hospital with the blood trail leading to the Souls home.

“From the hospital all the way to the garage, that is a danger zone. Especially in the early hours of the morning. The street lights go on and off so it’s easy for criminals to attack,” said Malcolm Jacobs.

According to the Sophiatown police communications officer, Jerbes de Bruyn, the man was sleeping in the hospital when the security guard told him that he cannot sleep there.

“The man then got up and walked out of the gates. He was confronted by a man who attempted to rob him. The man stabbed Sifiso who managed to escape the attacker. He ran all the way to the houses where he died,” said de Bruyn.

The police are still investigating the murder.
