SARAC rescues suspected stolen pitbulls during raid in Soweto

PHOTOS: A massive pitbull syndicate uncovered.

An incursion into the houses where suspected stolen dogs were kept paid off after suspects were arrested. Soweto Animal Rescue & Advisory Centre with members of the South Africa Police Service, Dr Nalisa Rhodes, Hellen Taylor from Rainbow Nation, Ursula Wearing, Tamsyn Venter from Urwin Animals Rescue, Henri Massyn, Brendon Venter from Stratcon Risk and the Army of Jerry’s supporters worked together to save these animals.

To prevent the dogs from escaping, the suspects put them in cages chained with heavy industrial manacles.

SARAC described the conditions where the pets were kept as being horrendous and really unbearable. Confiscated dogs were all checked and treated by Dr Nalisa Rhodes, and suspects were arrested on the spot.

Jerry from SARAC said, “The raid took place in different communities. We worked throughout the night in Naledi, Emndeni and Snake Park. We are still following other leads – perhaps this approach might lead to more arrests.

“Again, we really could use all the support from the public in order to continue with this line of work. All you need to do is donate,” said Jerry.

About SARAC:

SARAC is committed not only to rehabilitating and re-homing our animals but to finding a great match between each animal and their new family. We take into account the breed of the dog, the background, the temperament and personality, and try to find them the most suitable environment.

To adopt a puppy or dog from us, you will need to meet certain criteria. This will include a face-to-face meeting with you and your family, as well as an inspection of your home and property. In order for us to find the “perfect match”, we ask you to complete the application form which can be downloaded from clicking on this link application form, and e-mail this through to us.

This will help us to understand a little bit about you, and in turn what type of dog would thrive within your home environment and lifestyle. If there is a specific puppy or dog that you’d like to adopt, or if you’d like to find out more about our adoption process, please contact Jerry on +27 84 911 9459 or email us on info@sarac.co.za
