Violent death has come knocking on the streets of Eldorado Park, this time claiming the life of 38-year-old Edmund Rosenberg who was gunned down on October 14.
There is an undercurrent of violence, grudges and retribution in the community which is threatening to spiral out of control.
The casualties of which are the families left behind with endless questions about why there are so many young lives lost in what appears to be an all-out war on our streets.
According to Rosenberg’s parents, Ethel and Vincent, their slain son was at a funeral on the day he met his end at the end of a barrel.
Ethel said, “He was at a funeral the whole day, I’m not sure but I think he was being followed.”
The distraught parents are finding it hard to come to terms with the loss of their eldest son in this latest shooting death and have endless questions milling around in their heads about the circumstances under which he was murdered.
Rosenberg’s mother asked, “How is it that there were two other people with him in the car, but both of them were unharmed, only my son was shot.”
According to reports, the 38-year-old father of five was also robbed of his belongings which included his watch, wallet, cell phones and identity document.
Vincent Rosenberg said, “What happened is very sad for me as a father because I lost my eldest son. I want justice, firstly but it seems that when it comes to Eldos and our law enforcement, it’s like I’m dreaming for justice because I don’t think it’s going to happen here. I know the people who have done this have a very big party. This is not the first time they have targeted my sons.”
Speculation within the community is rife that Rosenberg’s murder may have been fuelled by internal strife between rival gangs and the shooting on October 16 at Vincent’s home attests to this.
A teary-eyed Vincent Rosenberg said, “To all my sons, I’ve had my differences with them, but I want them to know publicly that I love them.
“It’s just a little too late to tell Edmund that I love him. To everyone else, tell everybody whom you love that you love them. Rest in peace Edmund and know you will always be in my heart.”
