Police arrest seven suspects, two more still on the run
The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Deliwe de Lange has welcomed the quick response by a team of detectives who have arrested seven (7) suspects following the killing of a police officer, Akani Brondly Mongwe (30) at Braamfischerville, Soweto.
Three unlicensed firearms, all handguns, have been seized and two vehicles impounded.
The suspects aged between 20 and 45 are due to appear at the Protea Magistrate Court tomorrow on charges of murder, attempted murder, business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms.
It is believed that two more suspects were involved and a manhunt for them is continuing.
“The arrest of these suspects brings a relief to the Provincial management, the member’s family and his colleagues as well as the local community.
“Police will never rest until all the police killers are brought to book”, says the Provincial Commissioner. The other policeman who was shot and wounded is recovering at the hospital.
