Memorial Service: In loving memory of Tinyiko Mongwe

Residents of Orlando East stand united in memory of a little boy’s life lost in an apparent ritual killing.

The memorial service of the late Tinyiko Mongwe took place today at the DCC Hall in Orlando East.

Mourners from Orlando and other parts of Soweto flocked to bid farewell to little Mongwe and offer their condolences to his grief stricken family.

The programme of the day started with a wreath laying at the scene where Mongwe lost his life.

MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, urged the community of Orlando to continue to stand united.

“As parents and the community, we should learn something from this tragic loss of an innocent life,” said Nkosi-Malobane.

“Let us take care of our children. We should always try not to let them out of our sight.”

Mongwe lost his life on Monday in a suspected ritual killing while playing with his friends outside his home.

While this incident has left the whole of Soweto shaken, it has also united the people of Orlando East.

“Let us continue to stand together and fight crime and drugs in our communities in memory of the boy’s life,” said CPF chairperson Dumi Twala at the memorial service.

Funeral arrangements have been finalised. Little monger will be laid to rest on Sunday and the service will be held at the Orlando Communal Hall.
