Watch: Family evicted in Diepkloof, home destroyed

House bulldozed in Diepkloof. Neighbours are enraged and allege that the sale of the house is illegal.

A family has been left picking up the pieces of their family home after it was broken down by men in red.

According to Lerato Chitja, “A man named Norman, who was exposed in Checkpoint last week, apparently came with the police and a group of men in red and started breaking the house.”

The men came with a letter of eviction, and papers stating that the house has been sold.

Rueben Moatse, a neighbour said, “The man that we believe purchased the house also owns many other properties in Soweto. We are sure the purchase and eviction are illegal.”

According to Captain Phephi Matlou Mteto of Diepkloof SAPS the evictions that have taken place thus far, including this one in Zone One today, are lawful based on the information police have available.
