Young man turns love for food to a career, Soweto

He got it from his mama

Mpho Kennedy Kekana from Diepkloof grew up as a kid that loved spending much time with his mother and she instilled the love of food in him. He knew then what he wanted for himself, and that was working with food.

Kekana said, “The passion I have for this scares me sometimes because even in high school when other kids wanted to be in those respected careers like teaching and being doctors I stuck with what I believed is my gift.”

One thing Kekana always told himself is that being a chef is his first plan, and that he will never have a second plan.
Kekana said, “That’s why I’m always thriving to be the best at what I do because I do not have any plan B to fall to.”

Starting with his course at Boston was something he needed to do to start his career, since his passion was there already, that is where he learned a lot about food production, food costing and food beverages and began to understand the food industry. Kekana majors in hotel and catering operations and works as a pastry chef in Codfather at Sandton.

Kekana said, “So right now I’m a proud pastry chef and the love I have for this grows within me day by day and currently I’m working on a blog called, ‘Foodaspromised’ to show case different techniques of cooking and baking with your normal daily food products people have in the house.”

Kekana does not limit himself and his blog will fully show people that.

Kekana concluded, “Know what you want and go for it that’s what mom said and years later she’s looking at a proud young chef.”
