#AddHope on a hunger busting mission
Initiative raise more than R5 million to feed children with hope as part of World Hunger Month.
World Hunger Month was commemorated last month with a variety of activities which were aimed at alleviating hunger and malnutrition amongst children.
Add Hope, a KFC initiative raised R5.17 million which will go towards feeding more than 110 000 children every day in this country.
The money was raised through R2 donations made by customers every time they buy KFC products.
The Add hope initiative has been running for years in this country and benefits 110 organisations which look after children.
The African Children’s Feeding Scheme in Pimviile is one of the beneficiaries of the initiative. Through the activities of last month, the initiative was aiming to raise R5 million but the target was exceeded.
“We’re so pleased to have reached our goal of raising over R5 million in October and would like to thank every person who played a part in achieving this,” said KFC chief marketing officer for Africa Mike Middleton.
“Hunger is a major problem in South Africa and we have to keep raising the bar so that we can reach more children who really need help. The more donations Add Hope receives, the more children we can sustainably feed.”
Since its inception seven years ago, the Add Hope campaign has raised about R263 million and the goal is to raise more so that hunger and malnutrition becomes history in this country.
Add Hope kicked off World Hunger Month activities by taking KFC teams and media to some of its 110 beneficiary organisations across the country.
In addition to ‘Stories of Hope’ created in partnership with Expresso on SABC 3, an interactive Add Hope wall mural was unveiled on Vilakazi Street in Orlando West.
The wall mural is aimed at raising awareness about issues of hunger and nutrition.
Created by artist James Delaney working with local artists Vusi Khumalo and Sthembiso Dlamini, the wall includes a wire tree sculpture covered with tomato seeds embedded in paper for residents to take and grow their own tomatoes.
“Remember that you can donate any amount, all year round, in KFC restaurants or via the Add Hope website. Add Hope is a very real way that people can make a difference.
“Your donations help us to provide essential nutrition, growing an educated, healthy, and winning generation and filling them with hope for a brighter future,” said Middleton.
