A 46-year-old man from Pimville has been arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating a mentally ill 13-year-oldirl.
The man who is well known to the family of the girl was arrested this past weekend and will appear at the Lenasia Magistrate Court.
“The mother of the girl noticed a strange behaviour on her daughter and became suspicious that she might be pregnant. She then decided to take her to the clinic where she was told that her daughter was six months pregnant.
“The girl revealed that she had been raped by a man well known to the family and the rape occurred on several occasions according to her,” said police spokesperson captain Hitler Ngwenya.
Police have applauded the mother of the girl from coming out and reporting the incident. “We applaud the victim’s mother for breaking the silence. Domestic violence and the abuse of women and children will not be tolerated,” said Ngwenya.
