Rape case postponed

Protesters filled the court room for the man's second appearance.

The man who allegedly raped his 11-year-old daughter appeared in the Protea Magistrates Court today where the case was postponed to September 28.

He will appear for a bail application that the community is opposing.

The Eldorado Park Local Drug Action Committee collected more than 250 signatures from residents in a petition demanding that the man stays locked up.

They gathered in court this morning with the community, African National Congress Women’s League and Community Work Programme in support of the family in opposing bail.

Supporters chanted in front of court chanting with placards reading ‘Why daddy, why?’ and ‘No bail for child rapists’.

The court room was filled with supporters.

After proceedings, protesters surrounded the alleged rapist’s brother, shouted at him and reprimanded him for supporting his brother.
