Man arrested for raping daughter appears in court

Community protests outside court demanding the man not to be granted bail.

The man who was arrested last week Thursday for allegedly raping his 11-year-old daughter has made his first appearance in court.

He appeared on Monday at the Protea Magistrate Court on a charge of rape.

Eldorado Park Local Drug Action Committee with ANC Women’s League was in court to support the daughter.

They were protesting outside court demanding the man not to be granted bail.

The man is alleged to have committed the crime with his friend, who is still on the

run.

According to community members, this is not the first time the man has raped his daughter as he is alleged to be running a lolly lounge.

“This is actually the second incident this man has raped his daughter.

“First time it happened when the mother was still living with them and she was using drugs and taking alcohol,” said Cyril Kuyane, chairperson of Hillbrow flats where the incident happened.

Eldo’s LDAC has vowed to support the daughter and will not rest until justice is served and is strongly against child rape.

Meanwhile, the case was postponed to September 22 so that a Legal Aid council is appointed for him.

He is still under custody while the daughter is being kept in a place of safety.
