Child Protection Week draws to an end

Building a better future for every child through awareness.

Child Protection Week which was launched by the Minister of Social Development, Bathabile Dlamini, on May 31 has once more given the country a chance to reflect on how the nation is doing in protecting society’s most vulnerable group and safeguard their future.

While the plight of neglected, abused and exploited children has taken centre stage in the media space this week, there is a need for South Africans to think deeply about the contribution each member of society can make to promote the wellbeing of children in our households, neighbourhoods and in society at large.

The end of Child Protection Week therefore offers all South Africans an opportunity to commit to simple, daily actions that can be undertaken all year round to promote and protect the rights of South African children.

Minister Dlamini will address the closing event and is expected to reaffirm government’s commitment to protect and promote children’s rights in partnership with civil society, as well as talk to South Africans about taking ownership for care, safety and protection of children.
